New Patient FAQ
What insurance plans do you accept?
We accept most PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) insurance plans, including Anthem, Blue Shield, United Healthcare, UMR, Aetna, and Cigna. We also accept Medicare Part B and St. John’s Physician Partners—but only with an approved referral.
Please call our office at (310) 395-5025 so we can confirm your specific insurance coverage. We do not accept: LA Care, Medicaid, Multiplan/PHCS, Medicare Advantage, or Humana.
Do you accept Medicare or Medicaid?
We accept Medicare Part B. However, we do not accept Medicaid, Medicare HMO, or Medicare Advantage plans.
What if my insurance is not listed on your website?
Please give us a call. Our staff will gladly help you check if your insurance is accepted.
Do you accept HMOs or only PPOs?
We only accept PPO insurance plans.
Can I be seen if I don’t have insurance?
Yes! We welcome self-pay patients. Rates depend on the type of visit. Please call our office to learn more about pricing.
Do you offer payment plans or self-pay rates?
We offer self-pay rates based on the type of service. We do not offer payment plans and do not accept CareCredit.
How can I verify if my visit is covered by my insurance?
To check if your visit will be covered:
-
Call the member services number listed on the back of your insurance card and ask if your plan covers visits to SoCal Sports Podiatry or out-of-network podiatry services.
-
Ask if a referral or prior authorization is needed before your visit.
-
You can also call our office, and we will gladly assist with an insurance verification to help you better understand your benefits and any potential out-of-pocket costs
Will I need a referral from my primary care doctor?
No, PPO plans generally do not require a referral to see specialists or other providers within the network.
Some insurances, like St. John’s Physician Partners, require pre-approved authorization from your primary care physician before your appointment. Please call us to confirm if this applies to you.
What should I bring to my appointment regarding insurance?
Please bring your current insurance card and a valid photo ID (such as a Driver’s License).
Do you accept workers’ comp or personal injury claims?
Yes, we do. However, your attorney must contact us and submit the appropriate documentation before your appointment.
Do you bill the insurance directly, or do I need to?
We handle all insurance billing for you. It usually takes 30–45 days for claims to process. You’ll receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurer showing what was covered and your responsibility, if any.
What if my insurance denies the claim?
If your claim is denied, your insurance will send an EOB explaining why. Our billing team can help you understand the denial and, if needed, work on an appeal.
Do you help with prior authorizations if needed?
Most PPO plans do not require prior authorizations. If yours does, we will help submit any necessary paperwork to support your approval.
