What Is Tendinitis?
Simply put, tendinitis is the inflammation of a tendon, a thick cord of tissue that connects muscles to bones. One of the body’s largest and most important tendons is the Achilles Tendon, which connects the foot to the lower leg. Inflammation of the Achilles tendon is one of the primary causes of foot and ankle pain, making it hard to walk and painful to move the foot. Other types of tendonitis in the feet include posterior tibial tendinitis and peroneal tendinitis.
Tendinitis can develop as an overuse injury, usually due to improper stretching before working out, running, or engaging in other vigorous physical activities, such as dancing or taking an exercise class. Inflamed tendons can also occur if one consistently has incorrect form for certain types of physical activity. People with flat feet, arthritis, or tight tendons in general may be more at risk for inflammation.
Pain is the most prominent symptom of tendinitis, and you may mistake the inflammation for an acute injury. Most people notice that the pain worsens when they move the affected foot. You may also notice swelling around your ankle or tenderness around the bottom of your foot.
How Our Expert Podiatrist Treats Foot Tendinitis
If you can’t find relief with ice, elevation, and rest, it’s time to see our podiatrist for an exam. Left untreated, the inflammation in your tendon worsens, impacting your ability to move. Chronic tendinitis can be difficult to treat, so we recommend you visit us at the first sign of trouble.
We start with a complete physical examination of your foot or feet, including reviewing your medical history and activity habits. We may also use diagnostic imaging to help us pinpoint the location of the tendinitis so we can properly treat it and rule out other problems, such as a torn tendon or a stress fracture.
Your tendinitis treatment focuses on preventing further inflammation and injury and relieving the pain. We may create a soft cast to immobilize the area until the inflammation goes down, or we may create custom orthotic shoe inserts. Healing usually takes a couple of weeks. Our Marina Del Ray tendinitis foot doctor also explains ways to prevent the reoccurrence of tendinitis. Please contact SoCal Sports Podiatry today for an appointment.

Testimonials
Had a great experience overall! Dr. Sheth did an amazing job with my foot and has a great sense of humor as well! Highly recommend them.
Dr. Patel was very personable and kind to my 87 year old uncle. He took time to explain what was happening with his healing process and asked if we needed anything else. I appreciate his demeanor and expertise.
This is the most promise I've seen after four other surgeries. Both Dr. Patel and Sheth are great. They are fast - turned it around in less than a week and their surgery coordinator, Matty is amazing. This foot has been an unbelievable burden and I genuinely feel excited by how this seems like it's turning out...excellent service, smart and friendly doctors.
Scheduling an appointment and filling out the online patient form was very easy. Jordan the medical assistant who also did the scheduling was very cordial and helpful. Dr. Sheth was professional and friendly and never once pushed for unnecessary procedure.
